Manchester United have enjoyed a revival under interim manager Michael Carrick.

Since Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim was sacked at the start of January, United have dramatically improved their form.

Carrick has won five of his first six league matches, including victories over Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

He is also still undefeated, as his side drew 1-1 with West Ham United and sit in fourth place in the Premier League, well in the mix for a Champions League spot.

Nonetheless, Carrick is still an interim manager, with the club having to make a huge decision on who will be the permanent head coach in the summer.

Therefore, The Peoples Person asked its readers what they think Carrick needs to do to secure the permanent job for himself this season.

Qualify for Champions League

56% of fans feel that, should the former midfielder secure a spot in next season’s Champions League, he would deserve a shot at the full-time job.

United are currently in line to achieve this and have the extra advantage of only focusing on the league for the run-in, having been knocked out of both domestic cups.

Belief

23% of those polled believe it is not just about results, but there has to be a belief that Carrick is the right man to lead the club forward at this important juncture.

Carrick is certainly popular with the players, but it is hard to know for certain if this is just a new manager bounce after the downfall of Amorim.

Attractive football

10% of readers feel that getting the team to play attractive football is the biggest requirement to secure the job.

United certainly impressed against Manchester City and, despite their quality of play tailing off recently, they still scored an incredible counter-attacking goal on Monday night, reminiscent of some of Sir Alex Ferguson’s best sides.

No job

A small minority of fans, 7%, feel that Carrick should not be in consideration for the role.

Perhaps they want a bigger name who has been linked to the job, or at least someone with more Premier League managerial experience under their belt at this stage of their career.

4% of supporters feel that qualifying for any European spot would be enough to secure the job for Carrick. With the first seven places in the league likely to secure this feat, this would seem a bare minimum for Carrick to achieve this season.
