Michail Antonio is training with Leicester as he seeks to revive his club career in the Championship, a year after a car crash put his future in doubt. The 35-year-old forward is a free agent.

According to BBC UK, he could be an option for Marti Cifuentes while Patson Daka departs next week to join Zambia at the Africa Cup of Nations.

In December 2024 the Ferrari he was driving hit a tree in Epping Forest, leaving him with a badly broken leg and a femur snapped in four places. He spent more than three weeks in hospital after surgery.

He did not regain fitness in time to play for West Ham last season and was released when his contract ended in June. He returned with Jamaica in the summer and stayed on to gain minutes with West Ham’s Under-21s.

Cifuentes said Antonio has looked good in training and has been a positive presence around the group. Leicester are assessing him and he is happy to train.

The head coach added he had not seen signs of trauma, noting Antonio had trained with another club. He said match fitness will take time after a long absence because the game level is different.

Antonio spent a decade with West Ham and left as their all-time leading Premier League scorer with 68 goals in 268 games. He began at Tooting & Mitcham United and later played for Reading, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest before joining West Ham in 2015.
