Roma and Milan could add a defender in January if they found the right opportunity, and Harry Maguire, who has fallen out of favor at Manchester United, is on their radar, both for the ongoing session and the summer, Sky reports.
The center-back has only a few months left on his contract and could force his way out during the winter. He has featured just ten times this campaign and hasn’t played since early November because of a thigh injury and some technical choices. He has racked up over 256 appearances with the Red Devils and has 64 caps with England under his belt.
Roma and Milan are monitoring Maguire but haven’t taken concrete steps toward signing him at this stage. The 32-year-old makes about €5/6M per year, which has hindered his departure in the past.
The Giallorossi are chasing after Radu Dragusin in the same role and reached out to Tottenham. However, the counterparty isn’t eager to broker a deal, even if the defender has made his intentions known. Moreover, RB Leipzig have come forward as well. Unlike the Giallorossi, they have proposed a permanent deal. They’d be in the lead if the Spurs decided to okay his exit.
Both teams have been able to lure some Premier League stars in recent seasons, so there’s a chance, even though he’s more likely to head to another English team if he does leave. Considering the respective habits and coaches, the Rossoneri are a more likely destination and also have a more pressing need. The fee would have to be very meager for either side to act in January.
