Endrick left Real Madrid in January looking for more prominence to hone his skills. His stint officially ended earlier this week and the player is preparing for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

During his time at Olympique Lyon, the youngster racked up five goals and seven assists in 16 league appearances. Considering that he played for only six months in France, the numbers are impressive.

After the World Cup, he will return to Real Madrid’s dynamics as the club have him in their plans for next season.

Endrick’s farewell

Penning an emotional farewell message to the Olympique Lyon fanbase, the Brazilian protege explained how he will always hold the loan stint close to his heart and how it was special for him.

He began by emphasising how he was in a dark phase of his career until the loan option came up in January.

“In Brazil, when someone is going through a difficult time, it is often said that that person has to kill a lion a day. For months, I went through something that no athlete would want to go through. But I decided that I was not going to kill a single lion,” he began.

Explaining how he was brave and left to explore new pastures on loan, Endrick said,

“I decided to become one. And it was here that I found what I needed to regain my strength. To follow my instinct to attack like a lion. To defend those who came with me. And to those who received me so well here,” he added.

Hailing all the achievements he enjoyed at Lyon and the numbers he racked up in front of goal, the youngster wrote,

“The months of anguish gave way to months of joy, victories and also learning. I made new friends. I got even closer to the ones I already had.”

“And I discovered that our place is the one where we are with those we love and those who love us,” he added.

Finally, he bid them adieu and wrote about how he had bigger mountains to conquer and how it was the right time for him to move on.

“Unfortunately, even if it is stronger, a lion cannot stay in one place. I have to say goodbye now and start the return trip. That it’s going to be much longer.”

“Because I come back carrying much more than I had when I arrived. And even if I get to the end of this trip, for the rest of my life, I will take this city with me. In the heart and in the memory. Every time I look at my son’s smile, which God gave to our family here in Lyon,” he concluded.

A new coach to impress

Endrick did not see many minutes under Xabi Alonso at the beginning of the season and was left out of frustration at the same time.

His departure, however, coincided with the manager’s sacking and he never got a chance to work under Alvaro Arbeloa who was far more open to handing young players their chances.

Now, as he returns to Madrid, he will have a new coach to impress in Jose Mourinho, and it remains to be seen what value the new manager sees in him. After all, the managerial change will bring a change in formation, dynamic and the pecking order.
