José Mourinho named 17-year-old goalkeeper Leonardo Lopes in Benfica’s matchday squad for Tuesday’s Champions League play-off first leg against Real Madrid.

According to Glorioso 1904, the teenager warmed up on the Estádio da Luz pitch alongside Trubin and Diogo Ferreira, ready to step in if required.

His inclusion followed the absences of Samuel Soares, still recovering from injury, and Arnas Voitinovicious. Lopes had also been called for the first meeting with Madrid in the final round of the league phase.

The crowd of 66,387 set a new record for the current Estádio da Luz, surpassing the 65,467 registered against Rio Ave on 9 May 2010.

Benfica lost 0-1, leaving them behind in the play-off. The deficit is narrow, and the tie will be decided in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu on 25 February.
