Jamal Musiala continues to search for his best form at FC Bayern. With the World Cup in sight, time is running out for the attacking star

Jamal Musiala continues to work on his comeback at the top level. Although the FC Bayern attacker has repeatedly shown flashes of his exceptional class in recent weeks, the 23-year-old has not yet been able to consistently return to his old form

In the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain in particular, Musiala was largely pale in both games. In the spectacular 4:5 in the first leg in Paris and also in the 1:1 in Munich, the international was committed and strong on the run, but often lacked his usual ease in one-on-one situations

With a view to the World Cup in the summer, the question is therefore growing as to whether Musiala will be back to 100 percent in time. The German national team will start the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico against Curacao on June 14

Hamann questions Kompany’s decision

Sky pundit Dietmar Hamann is critical of the current situation. In his column, the former Bayern professional explained: „At Bayern, I asked myself: Why was Jamal Musiala in the starting XI after his poor performances in Paris and against Heidenheim? The coach has to answer that question too. Leon Goretzka might have been the better option. Musiala could have helped the team more if he had come off the bench in the last half hour.“

Oliver Kahn also believes that the Bayern star has not yet returned to his former level. The former FC Bayern CEO emphasized on Sky: „The current situation is not the standard that Jamal has set for himself and that the club has set for Jamal.“

However, Kahn continues to believe that his performance will improve soon. „He doesn’t have the luck at the moment,“ explained the 56-year-old. They are just waiting for „Musiala’s knot to burst“

Serious injury still having an effect

In the summer of 2025, Musiala suffered a serious injury against Paris Saint-Germain of all teams at the Club World Cup. At the time, the attacking player suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle

Since then, the international has been fighting his way back step by step. Musiala has shown strong signs time and again, but consistency is still lacking

Nevertheless, Kahn recently made it clear that he firmly expects Musiala to play at the World Cup. After his statements at the beginning of April were partly misunderstood, he made it clear: „When Jamal Musiala is ready, he belongs on the big World Cup stage.“
