Florian Wirtz decided against a transfer to FC Bayern and moved to Liverpool. A German international now reveals that he literally begged him not to move to Munich

Florian Wirtz’s transfer kept the Bundesliga – and FC Bayern – busy for months. In the end, the 22-year-old decided against the German record champions and opted for a transfer to Liverpool FC

His former Leverkusen colleague Robert Andrich now openly described how he talked Wirtz into it in the dressing room. In the „Spielmacher“ podcast, Andrich revealed that he had fully expected a move to Munich – and wanted to prevent it at all costs

„I said to him: Please don’t do it! Don’t do this to us,“ said the German international and made no secret of how much a Bayern transfer of the exceptional player would have hurt him. Although he was a Bayern fan himself in his youth, he did not want to begrudge the record champions this sporting triumph. For Andrich, it was clear: With Wirtz in a Bayern shirt, it would have been even more difficult for Leverkusen and their national rivals to attack the serial champions

The Leverkusen 2024 double winner therefore hoped for a move abroad – and ultimately got his wish. „I wanted it,“ explained Andrich. „I also told the Bayern boys that.“

Andrich on Wirtz: „I was happy for him“

Wirtz did indeed decide to make the move to the Premier League after lengthy talks with Liverpool FC

Andrich was nevertheless surprised by his teammate’s decision. „I was happy for him that he made the move. I didn’t think he would dare to go abroad,“ said the 31-year-old

Wirtz’s start with the reigning English champions was bumpy, but this did not worry Andrich. He believed that the adjustment phase was normal and was convinced that the most expensive German player of all time would assert himself. This assessment has been impressively confirmed recently: Wirtz has been directly involved in seven Liverpool FC goals in the past six weeks.
