Marseille defender Nayef Aguerd will undergo adductor surgery on Thursday after months of pubalgia.

The 29-year-old has been hampered by adductor pain since autumn, which forced him to manage his workload, yet he still featured at the Africa Cup of Nations. After Morocco's 1-0 extra-time defeat to Senegal in the final, he returned and played for OM but missed last Saturday's 1-0 match at Toulouse. Foot Mercato first reported that he had requested the operation.

The pubalgia, referenced by former coach Roberto De Zerbi in November, has persisted. The procedure is set to rule him out for several weeks.

It could help him return in better shape for the final Ligue 1 matches and the World Cup with Morocco in June.

In his absence, OM can still call on four centre-backs: Leonardo Balerdi, Facundo Medina, Benjamin Pavard and CJ Egan-Riley.
