The Newcastle United contracts position is now looking in a great position.

All of the top players in their twenties who are seen as the key individuals at St James’ Park in the years ahead, all have three or more years left on their current deals.

Whilst it is an equally healthy situation with the more mature players who Eddie Howe wants to stay at the club, these experienced players happy to have another year added to their existing contracts.

The likes of Fabian Schar and others having previously done so and now Dan Burn agreeing his own one year extension (see below). Now seeing his NUFC contract end in June 2027, rather than June 2026.

How the Newcastle United contracts situation now looks (via official club releases and media reports), when current deals are up, including now that Dan Burn update:

End of June 2025:

Wilson, Gillespie, Ruddy, Lewis

End of June 2026:

Schar, Targett, Pope, Longstaff, Ashby, Hayden, Trippier, Krafth, Dubravka, Lascelles

End of June 2027:

Botman, Burn, Jacob Murphy, Willock

End of June 2028:

Tonali, Isak, Barnes, Livramento, Bruno, Miley, Joelinton, Alex Murphy

End of June 2029:

Kelly (now on loan at Juventus who have an obligation to buy), Hall, Gordon

Of the quartet who see their Newcastle United contracts end next month, Jamal Lewis leaving for sure. Then Ruddy and Gillespie expected to leave as well, unless kept on as part of the backroom/coaching team. Whilst it increasingly looks like Callum Wilson could be set to leave as well.

Newcastle United official announcement – 24 May 2025:

‘Newcastle United defender Dan Burn has extended his contract by an additional year, keeping him at St. James’ Park until summer 2027.

The England international has enjoyed an outstanding campaign for the Magpies, playing a crucial role as Eddie Howe’s side delivered the club’s first major domestic trophy in 70 years.

Dan, the opening goalscorer and Player of the Match in the historic Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool, has featured 45 times in all competitions this season, missing just one Premier League fixture.

The 33-year-old’s form was recognised by new England manager Thomas Tuchel in March, with Dan handed his international debut as he completed the full 90 minutes in a World Cup qualifier against Albania.

Dan said: “I’m delighted to sign a new deal here. I knew that I was going into my last year and I really wanted to get my future tied down. I’ve said before that I would love to finish my career here so to be given that opportunity, I’m very grateful.

“I still feel like I’m getting better and I don’t feel that I’ve hit the top of the hill yet. It’ll be tough to top this season but hopefully we can do that over the next couple of years. It’s a dream come true to be playing for this club and I’m delighted that I get to keep doing it.”

Newcastle United head coach, Eddie Howe, added: “Dan has had an incredible season. He has been a key part of our most memorable moments and has rightly been rewarded with senior international football.

“He is a leader who epitomises the attitude and commitment we want, and I’m delighted he’ll be staying with us for even longer.”

Paul Mitchell, the club’s sporting director, said: “This is an acknowledgement of Dan’s continued importance to the team.
