Tolu Arokodare has spoken out about the reports stating that he caused training to be cancelled on Monday

The summer following a relegation can always be a little tumultuous, but at Wolves, the ongoing off-season has been pretty chaotic ahead of their Championship return.

The Old Gold began the summer on the front foot with the free agent arrivals of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez, two veterans who could still perform at Premier League level. They followed that up, though, with the sacking of Rob Edwards, unbeknownst to him, in favour of Cesar Peixoto.

Now, the new Portuguese boss is navigating a summer where he has to oversee plenty of player movement, as some people will want to continue their careers at top-flight level and will be searching for a move away from Molineux.

According to reports, frontman Tolu Arokodare is one of those who is eager to move on ahead of the new Championship campaign, one year on from securing a £24 million move from Genk, where he was the Belgian Pro League top scorer in 2024/25.

Fiorentina seem to be the 25-year-old's ideal destination, but Wolves have instead accepted a bid from Trabzonspor, rejecting the Serie A side, which led to a training ground altercation on Monday.

It was reported on Wednesday that Arokodare caused Cesar Peixoto to cancel Wolves' training session on Monday, after the striker refused to leave the pitch. According to the BBC, he sat down and demanded that the club let him move to Fiorentina.

It's exactly the confrontation that new boss Peixoto will not want to be dealing with, weeks into his first pre-season at his new club, as he looks to navigate what's set to be a summer filled with player movement.

This isn't the first flashpoint in Arokodare's short Wolves career, either, as he was disciplined following a 4-0 defeat against West Ham in April, a week before their relegation was confirmed to the second tier.

However, the 25-year-old has come out and responded to these reports on X, labelling them "inaccurate," and reinforcing his commitment to Wolves while he's still under contract with the club.

"I was very surprised and disappointed to see the media reports today, many of which are inaccurate," he said. "Throughout my career, I have always taken great pride in conducting myself professionally and maintaining the highest training standards.

"My commitment has always been to prepare myself as well as possible so that I can contribute to my teammates and the club whenever I am called upon.

"I remain under contract with Wolves, and my only intention is to fulfil my responsibilities professionally by training, doing my job, and contributing to the team in accordance with that contract."

There weren't many things to be positive about at Wolves last season, and Arokodare's performances weren't one of them, either.

The £24 million arrival netted just three times in 33 Premier League games, following the likes of Paul Onuachu and Denis Undav as former Belgian Pro League Golden Boot winners who have struggled in the Premier League recently.

However, Wolves fans were especially frustrated with the lack of effort Arokodare showed while the club were struggling under Vitor Pereira and Rob Edwards, and took sly digs at the 25-year-old in response to his tweets.

In response to @TalkingWolves posting the tweets on X, one Wolves fan wrote, "I heard he sat in the centre circle and refused to move. A bit like last season, to be fair." "Taking great pride in my professionalism is doing some heavy lifting there after he tried to scrap Mane last season," another commented.

The majority of replies took the stance that this was purely agent talk, though, and was a way to try and rescue some good public image to ensure interested clubs don't drop their pursuit after seeing the initial reports.

"Just PR stuff to help try and get his move back on, I'd imagine," one fan speculated. "Great words from Tolu Arokodare's agent tbf," another said.

Ultimately, the majority of Wolves fans can't wait to see the Nigerian international part ways with the club.

It's been a disastrous 12 months both on and off the field, it seems, and fans are ready for the Old Gold to move on with the likes of Jimenez and Adam Armstrong as striker options next season.

"Mate, the best outcome for both parties is to part ways. This way, there won't be any more drama," a fan added, while another simply commented, "Just get him gone asap."
