Newcastle United are closing in on tying down Lewis Miley on a long-term contract, per The Sun.
The 20-year-old’s current deal runs until 2029, but the Magpies are keen to reward him with a better contract.
An announcement is not expected any time soon as the two parties are yet to finalise the terms. But there is said to be willingness from both camps.
Miley has been a key first-team player for Newcastle in the last two seasons. He has made 80 senior appearances, with 14 direct goal contributions to his name.
Miley mainly operates as a central midfielder, but manager Eddie Howe was forced to use him as a right-back this season after injuries to Tino Livramento and Kieran Trippier.
He not only rose to the challenge but performed impressively in his new role.
Miley picked up a serious injury during training last week, ruling him out for the rest of the season. But he is expected to return for the start of pre-season.
Newcastle are keen to secure the youngster’s long-term future, with Trippier leaving at the end of the season.
Livramento’s future at St James’ Park is also a source of speculation, with Manchester City and Arsenal reportedly interested in securing his services.
The Tyneside club may be reluctant to sell, but a big offer could change their stance.
Newcastle have endured a difficult 2025-26 campaign, as they are sitting 13th in the Premier League standings with two games remaining.
Despite their struggles, the club’s hierarchy are still planning to retain Howe as their head coach.
