Newcastle United announce midfielder Pike’s shock retirement | OneFootball

Newcastle United midfielder Molly Pike is retiring from playing professional football.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official media update from The Magpies this morning.

Pike has opted to hang up her boots at the age of just 25. The midfielder has enjoyed seven years playing professional football in spells with Everton, Bristol City, Leicester City, Southampton and Newcastle United.

On the international stage, Pike represented England at various youth levels earlier in her career.

After her retirement was announced, Pike said “I’m incredibly proud to have represented Newcastle United and this isn’t a decision I have taken lightly.

“Choosing to step away from football isn’t a reflection of my time at the club, it’s an entirely personal decision I have made in order to prioritise my own wellbeing.

“I’d like to thank everybody at the club who has made me feel so welcome and supported me throughout my season here – I wish you all every success in the future.

“I also need to mention the fans, who have been incredible home and away throughout the season. Your passion and dedication following us around the country and being right behind us every game is something I’ll never forget.”

Pike’s final career appearance came as Newcastle United drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest last month.
