A Santos supporter who clashed with Neymar after the Copa Sudamericana draw with Recoleta has explained his actions in a social media video, according to Globo.com.

Victor Augusto, known as Vitão, said the row began when the Santos captain allegedly told a nearby female fan to be quiet, prompting him to intervene. In footage carried by ESPN, Neymar is also heard questioning whether he is pampered and stating he is giving everything for the club.

The fan said he challenged Neymar because supporters expect far more, stressing that no one is bigger than Santos and that players must honour the shirt. He thanked the forward for past runs in the Libertadores, Copa do Brasil and the Paulistão. He then said that if Neymar no longer wants to be there, he should leave, later apologising if he overstepped with women and children nearby and insisting it was not personal.

Separate clips show Neymar pointing to the club crest on his shirt and saying he respects Santos. He later pushed back at criticism, while repeating several times that the supporter was right to demand more.

Speaking in the mixed zone, Neymar told reporters he reacted to the way he was addressed. He said he accepts criticism of performances, but not personal insults or narratives from outside football, adding that he feels he does more than he should and will not accept being treated otherwise. He added that the squad were also upset with the draw.
