Neymar will miss Sunday’s trip to Flamengo, the 10th round of the Brasileirão, after a booking in Santos’ win over Remo at Vila Belmiro, then criticised referee Savio Pereira Sampaio.

According to Globo.com, the caution arrived on 40 minutes of the second half after a foul by Diego Hernández, and Neymar’s reaction sparked a brief scuffle.

He said the decision was unfair, arguing he had endured several rough challenges late on and was then cautioned when he complained.

He also said Savio sought the spotlight, showed little respect and refused dialogue, and needed to handle things better.

Coach Cuca will also be without forward Rony, who is suspended after a yellow card.

Left-back Vinícius Lira has a serious left knee injury and is not expected to play again this season. Right-back Mayke is being rested after using a corticosteroid, a banned substance that could trigger a doping violation. Midfielder Gabriel Menino has a right hamstring injury.

Santos could, however, welcome back striker Gabriel Barbosa, who is resuming on-field work after swelling in his right calf.

The win over Remo lifted Santos to 12th in the league on 10 points and made it two games without conceding.

The squad return to training on Friday afternoon at CT Rei Pelé, then work again on Saturday morning before travelling to Rio de Janeiro.
