Nicolas Dixon calls Elland Road mural work as good as it gets | OneFootball

Nicolas Dixon has been recommissioned by Leeds United to relocate and repaint his 1972 FA Cup tribute mural at Elland Road as part of the ongoing redevelopment. The move follows approval in January for a new West Stand.

"As a Leeds United fan painting on the side of Elland Road is as good as it gets," Dixon said. "Then to see that work being painted over, was quite traumatic to be honest, but I'm just glad that we're back on with it and it's such a privilege to get to do it again." He was speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The wall that carried the original piece is being turned into the club’s new security hub, so outward kiosk windows required the artwork to be moved and repainted. The mural celebrates the 1972 triumph and features Don Revie and Les Cocker.

"I had to reconfigure the players and totally redesign it as the kiosk was right on Don Revie's head," he said. "It was more difficult than I expected to be honest but I'm quite happy with how it all fits, and I actually prefer it now to how it was before."

Dixon has teased a few surprises and plans to apply the finishing touches this weekend, with the new mural already visible to passers-by. Work at Elland Road continues ahead of a home friendly against RB Leipzig on eight August. The redevelopment is set to lift capacity by over 15,000, from 37,645 to 53,000.
