Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed that striker Nicolas Jackson is set to miss around six to eight weeks with a hamstring problem.
He was forced off during Chelsea’s win over West Ham earlier this month with and is now set to be out until after the international break, the weekend of March 21-22 2025.
Chelsea are also without striker Marc Guiu, who also has a hamstring injury, leaving them without a proper recognised striker.
“As you already know, Nico will be out until the international break,” Maresca said.
“He will probably be available until after the international break.
“We knew that it was a muscular problem but we didn’t know how bad it was.
“His reaction was quite good so we all thought it was not a big injury but unfortunately he had the scan a few days ago and it’s an important one so he will be out for around six to eight weeks.
“Marc Guiu obviously will be out for a while, Romeo Lavia is in the process to come back with us and Benoit Badiashile is exactly the same.
“Guiu is exactly the same, a muscular problem.”
Maresca has been dealt a boost, however, with defender Wesley Fofana back training with the squad.
The 24-year-old has been out since December but is now closing in on a return ahead of schedule.
“Wesley Fofana has started to work with us two days ago,” Maresca said. “That means he still needs two or three weeks at least to be 100% fit but at least he has started to work with us.
“It doesn’t mean that he will be with us very soon but seeing him with the players in the squad, it is a good feeling.”
Midfielder Romeo Lavia also remains out with a hamstring injury and is expected to return around the same time as Jackson.
“Lavia, more or less like Nico, probably after the international break,” Maresca said.
“It happens, it’s football, unfortunately they can get injuries.
“Our injuries, more or less, are the same injuries they had in previous years when they had some problems.
“I said many times, when you have a big problem, the year after you are going to struggle because it’s normal.
“Romeo already improved compared to last year in terms of how many games he played and hopefully he can finish well, the last part of the season, and be more fit next season.”
