Atalanta forward Nikola Krstovic suffered a gruesome forehead gash after Ramy Bensebaini caught him with his studs in the Champions League, the incident leading to the penalty that sealed qualification.

The decisive flashpoint came in the fourth minute of stoppage time in Wednesday's play-off second leg against Borussia Dortmund. According to L'Équipe, the move began when Gregor Kobel's miscue allowed Mario Pasalic to break down the left and cross towards Krstovic.

With his eyes fixed on the ball, Bensebaini attempted a last-ditch outside-of-the-foot clearance, but his raised boot struck Krstovic as the forward stooped to meet the delivery.

Krstovic stood up with blood pouring from his forehead and a penalty was awarded. It was converted to make it 4-1 at 90+8.

After the match, Krstovic posted a selfie on his Instagram story showing stud marks across his forehead and scalp.
