Sporting Bastia’s relegation to Ligue 3, the current National, would leave Corsica without a club in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2 in 2026-2027. Their home match against Le Mans at Furiani on Saturday night was halted in the closing minutes with the visitors leading 2-0 after flares were thrown, and the result is still to be ratified.

According to L'Équipe, it would be the first such absence since 1964-1965. Bastia, founded in 1921, and AC Ajaccio, founded in 1910, were promoted to Division 2 at the end of that season.

Gazélec Ajaccio, created in 1960, reached Division 2 for the first time in 1968-1969.

Next season Bastia are set to play in Ligue 3. Gazélec are in National 3, the fifth tier, currently eighth in their group, and played in Ligue 1 in 2015-2016.

A few months after filing for bankruptcy, AC Ajaccio last month sealed a return to the sixth tier, Régional 1, with four rounds remaining in the Régional 2 season. It marks an initial rebuild for the club that were administratively relegated from Ligue 2 last summer.
