New manager rumours around Notts County have been few and far between since Stuart Maynard was sacked on May 22, but bookmakers have thrown a new name in the hat recently.

Remarkably, Brian Priske, who took over from Arne Slot as Feyenoord manager in the summer following the latter's departure to Liverpool, is now among the favourites to take over at Meadow Lane.

The 48-year-old has also been in talks with Scottish giants Rangers recently, too, as they look to find a replacement for Barry Ferguson.

If it were to be Notts County who secured Priske's services, it would place the Magpies among the favourites to go one better and secure automatic promotion from League Two this upcoming season.

However, FLW's Notts County fan pundit, Gareth Parr, has acknowledged that, whilst Priske would be a great coup, it is only the ownership duo of Christoffer and Alexander Reedtz who truly know what is going to happen in terms of dugout replacement this summer.

Brian Priske speculation praised, but questions links

Speaking to Football League World, Parr said: "Brian Priske is an interesting one. In terms of coaching style, he's rooted in possession like Maynard and Luke Williams before him, but unlike those, he seems to have what fans are desperate for.

"He has the flexibility not to coach with that philosophy at any cost and has occasionally used long balls and speed to break down defences.

"He also deploys a high press rather than a sit-back defensive system, which is something that has frustrated supporters in the past, and he has a reputation for developing young talent, which is something the owners are looking for."

However, Parr believes that the way the odds have shifted over the past few weeks on who is going to take the hot seat at Meadow Lane shows how unpredictable the hiring process will be.

"Stuart Maynard didn't appear in the bookies' statistics until the very last minute, so I think no one really knows what's going to happen except the owners," he concluded.

Brian Priske's impressive coaching career thus far

Brian Priske has managed games in either the Champions League or the Europa League in four of the last five seasons with FC Midtjylland, Sparta Prague and, more recently, Feyenoord.

He won the Czech First League in back-to-back campaigns between 2022-2024 whilst at Sparta Prague, winning two-thirds of his 96 games in charge in the Czech capital.

Additionally, his short time as manager of Feyenoord saw him win 18 of his 33 games in charge - an admirable record if it didn't come off the back of the reign of one of the best coaches in football today, in Arne Slot.

Notts County's hope of bringing in Priske will rely mainly on whether there is a relationship between the 48-year-old manager and the current ownership duo of Alex and Chris Reedtz, with all three of them hailing from Denmark.

Priske may have higher hopes for himself, especially if he has been in talks with European-level clubs such as Rangers recently. But if the Magpies can pull this off, they'll automatically have one of the better, if not the best, managers in the fourth tier.
