No progress on desired player: Bayern threatened with transfer setback

FC Bayern are pressing ahead with their transfer plans for the summer – but one player who has long been seen as promising is currently at a standstill. Givairo Read is in danger of not moving to the Isar for the time being

The initial situation actually seemed clear: the personal terms between the German record champions and the 19-year-old right-back do not appear to be a problem, an important step that would normally pave the way for a transfer

But this is exactly where the problem begins, because while the player’s side has given the green light, negotiations with Feyenoord Rotterdam have hit a major snag

Transfer fee is the sticking point

The Dutch are said to be demanding around 30 million euros for their talent – a sum that currently seems too high for Bayern, especially in view of the player’s recent development

Read has recently been slowed down by a thigh injury and has only featured irregularly. For a player of this age and in this situation, the asking price is difficult to justify from Munich’s point of view

Competition never sleeps

While talks stagnate, the competition is getting into position. Manchester City in particular are said to be showing great interest in the Dutch U21 international and are keeping a close eye on the situation

This increases the pressure on Bayern to make a decision – either meet their demands or look elsewhere

This is exactly what seems to be happening at the moment. Internally, Munich are increasingly looking at alternatives and prioritizing other transfer targets, with names such as Anthony Gordon and Kennet Eichhorn increasingly coming into focus

This shows that squad planning is running in parallel on several levels – and no deal is being pushed through at any price

A transfer of Givairo Read is therefore by no means off the table, but is currently anything but concrete. Much will depend on whether Feyenoord show any movement on the transfer fee

Until then, FC Bayern remains flexible – and is keeping several options open on the transfer market.
