Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva has hinted that his future may lie elsewhere with his contract set to expire this summer.

City’s last two captains, Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne, have both left the club in the past six months and Silva could follow suit this summer.

The Portuguese international has spent the last eight years at the Etihad. However his current deal is set to expire this summer.

“I know exactly what I’m going to do but it’s not the time to talk about it,” Silva revealed about his future. “It’s time to focus here, to focus at Man City. To try to do my best to put the club back where it belongs.”

“Regarding my contract, I’m really focussed on doing a proper season, as well as possible. To perform and bring back the team and club to the level it deserves to be.”

The midfielder has made more appearances for Pep Guardiola than any other player during the manager’s career. Silva took over the armband after De Bruyne’s exit in June.

He explained: “I have eight years of knowing exactly what Pep wants from his team. I try to pass that on to the team and set an example.

“It’s a great honour. I am trying my best to put the team as close as possible to get the team back to the level it deserves to be.”

Ahead of their match with Monaco, Silva also received glowing praise from his manager: “He cannot do better as captain.

“He’s one of the best players I’ve ever trained, a luxury for me to have him in these 10 years.”

Guardiola continued: “An extraordinary player, intelligent, smart, ductile, can play in I don’t know how many positions.

“Really, really happy to have him and he accepted the role alongside the other ones.”
