Darwin Nunez has given the green light to a move to Napoli with talks set to begin between the Italian champions and Liverpool.

Nunez is set to leave Liverpool this summer after struggling for favour under Arne Slot. The Uruguay international started just eight times in the Premier League last season, scoring five goals.

Nunez has failed to find consistency in his performances at Anfield and all parties are open to an exit in the current transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the 25-year-old is keen on a move to Napoli, after being presented with Antonio Conte’s project.

The Serie A side were crowned champions in Italy last season and are seeking to strengthen ahead of a return to the Champions League. Nunez is Conte’s first-choice target to add to his attacking options and talks are set to take place between the two sides.

A deal is now dependent on Napoli’s ability to reach Liverpool’s asking price. The Reds value Nunez at €70m (£59m) as the Premier League champions look to recoup a large part of the initial £64m fee paid to sign the forward from Benfica in 2022.

Napoli are also working on the exit of Victor Osimhen, who has a €75m release clause in his contract. Galatasaray and Saudi Pro League sides are pushing to sign the Nigerian, in a sale that could free funds to complete a deal for Nunez. English sides are also monitoring Osimhen’s situation.
