Örgryte IS sporting director Pontus Farnerud has addressed speculation surrounding former West Bromwich Albion defender Michael Parker, who has been linked with Sunderland, Celtic and Rangers.

Speaking on Saturday, Farnerud told Fotbollskanalen: “Yes, there is interest in Michael. He has a profile and possesses qualities that make him attract interest, but at the moment all focus for both Michael and Ÿd6is is the match against Kalmar FF ( on Sunday).”

He declined to say whether the club had received a formal offer for the 21-year-old centre-back.

Sunderland are yet to add to their squad this summer, but Dan Neil, Dennis Cirkin, Bertrand Traore and Niall Huggins have departed after their contracts expired.

Harrison Jones has joined Peterborough United, Nazariy Rusyn has moved to Karpaty Lviv and Milan Aleksic has completed a loan to Partizan. Eliezer Mayenda is set to leave, with a switch to French club Rennes said to be close in a deal that would reportedly net Sunderland a fee.

The Black Cats face their first Europa League campaign after last season’s seventh-placed Premier League finish. They are guaranteed at least eight games in the league phase, which could include Juventus, AC Milan and Olympique Marseille.
