Lazio have confirmed that Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has been reinstated in the Serie A squad list at the expense of Elseid Hysaj.

The Background

The Nigerian has been out of action since sustaining an injury in the early minutes of the Derby della Capitale defeat to Roma back in September. Due to his lengthy absence, Maurizio Sarri decided to drop him from the list and replace him with Toma Basic, who has been making the most out of the opportunity.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru Returns to Lazio Serie A Squad

With the African Cup of Nations just around the corner, many had ruled out Dele-Bashiru’s return to the squad, as he’s expected to join his national team in the coming weeks. However, with Nicolo Rovella and Danilo Cataldi both on the treatment table, the midfield crisis has prompted Sarri and the club to reinstate Dele-Bashiru, as confirmed by a statement released on the club’s official website.

Elseid Hysaj Dropped from Lazio Squad

In recent days, some reports had expected Rovella to be the one to make way for Dele-Bashiru, as the Italian should remain on the sidelines until early January, having recently undergone surgery. But interestingly, Sarri decided to sacrifice his longtime disciple Hysaj, who has been a mere benchwarmer this season, with four other full-backs ahead of him in the pecking order.

The Serie A Squad Changes Rules

It should be noted that Lazio won’t be allowed to make any further changes to their Serie A squad until the end of December, having consumed their two available slots for the first half of the season. The club will be able to make unlimited changes during the January transfer window, before settling on a list at the beginning of February.
