For the first time since 2023, the Trophée des Champions will be held in France, pitting Paris Saint-Germain, the newly crowned French champions, against RC Lens, winners of the Coupe de France.
A clash between the top two sides from the last Ligue 1 season, which will take place at the Sang et Or’s home ground, the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, chosen by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) to host the event this Wednesday by a coin toss following a failure in negotiations between the two clubs to reach an agreement on the venue of the match.
Four-time defending champions and winners of 12 of the last 13 editions, Luis Enrique’s men will be looking to add another trophy to their collection, having played the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa just four days earlier.
For Lens, this match will be an opportunity to get their season off to a strong start, but also to take some – belated – revenge on PSG, who denied them the trophy in 1998 (a 1-0 defeat).
