Official – LFP rules on the Lens/PSG postponement!

Since Paris Saint-Germain qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals against Liverpool (April 8 and 14), there has been talk of a possible postponement of the trip to Lens scheduled for Saturday, April 11, as part of Ligue 1 Matchday 29. Even though the Lens club expressed its opposition, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) announced in a statement this Thursday that the match has been postponed to May 13. The same applies to the match between Strasbourg and Brest, which was also scheduled between the Conference League quarter-finals.

At the request of Paris Saint-Germain and RC Strasbourg, in order to prepare under the best possible conditions for their respective UEFA Champions League and UEFA Conference League quarter-finals, the LFP Board of Directors unanimously decided, excluding the clubs concerned, to postpone the matches RC Lens – Paris Saint-Germain and Stade Brestois – RC Strasbourg, counting for Ligue 1 McDonald’s Matchday 29, to Wednesday, May 13. These two decisions are accompanied by a proposal made to RC Lens to adjust its schedule by bringing forward the RC Lens–FC Nantes match (Matchday 33) to Friday, May 8, should Paris Saint-Germain qualify for the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. »

We know the decision will spark plenty of debate, as has been the case since the start of this matter. There will inevitably be some unhappy people, while others will better understand the LFP’s decision and the benefit of a postponement. In any case, it is now official: the Lens/PSG match will not take place on Saturday, April 11. That will allow Paris to focus fully on its matches against Liverpool before later turning its attention to this important trip to Lens.
