Manchester United defender Harry Amass has sealed a season-long loan move to Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.

Amass’ progress at United

Amass joined United’s academy from Watford in 2023, then as one of the highest-rated players in the country in his age group.

United warded off significant interest from rival clubs to land Amass. He was a regular feature for both the Under-18s and Under-21s in his debut campaign and helped the former win a treble.

Amass was included in Erik ten Hag’s senior squad for last summer’s pre-season tour but had to wait until March to make his first-team debut under Ruben Amorim, coming off the bench in an away win over Leicester City.

The England youth international went on to make seven appearances for United in 2024/25.

However, with United out of Europe and game time limited, it was decided that a loan move would better serve Amass’ development than staying at Old Trafford.

Wednesday emerged as the leading suitors to snap him up and now, a transfer has got over the line.

Wednesday sign Amass on loan

United have released a statement which reads, “Left-back Harry Amass has joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan, subject to registration.”

“Everyone at United wishes Harry the best of luck at Hillsborough, and, as part of our loans programme, staff at the club will continue to be in close contact to help him maximise this opportunity.”

Wednesday have also unveiled Amass.

Reacting to the move, Amass told club media, “I’m very excited, I can’t wait to get going and I’m just really happy that it has all happened. I think as a player, I would say I’m exciting, I’m confident, I’m hard-working and really ready for this challenge.”

“One of my biggest strengths is that I believe in myself, I know what I’m capable of and my main goal is to perform week in, week out and show consistency.”

“I want to be exciting for the fans to watch.”

The 18-year-old added, “I just had a good feeling instantly when I spoke to the manager. I got the feeling that this will be the best place for me, the history of the place is massive and that’s why I chose here.”

“I think I’ve learned a lot, the move to Manchester United was a good step, the right step for me and since then I’ve been with the first team. From that I have taken a lot of things, learned a lot of things and it has really developed me as a player.”

Amass stressed that he intends to use his experiences at United as a foundation for success at Wednesday.
