Official: Real Madrid announce free agent departure | OneFootball

La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Wednesday made official the departure of a long-time member of the club’s defensive ranks.

The player in question? Lucas Vázquez.

It has of course long been common knowledge that versatile full-back Vázquez was due to bring a close to the Real Madrid chapter of his career this summer.

This comes after the 34-year-old, who has spent the entirety of his senior career on the books in Spain’s capital, was not offered an extension to his expiring contract terms.

Vázquez went on to play his part at the recently-completed Club World Cup, with the assumption having been that, soon after, his impending exit would be confirmed.

And as alluded to above, on Wednesday, an official announcement regarding as much has finally arrived.

As per a statement across Real Madrid’s website and social media platforms:

‘Real Madrid CF announces that tomorrow, Thursday, July 17, at 1:00 p.m., an institutional tribute and farewell ceremony for our player Lucas Vázquez will take place at Real Madrid City, with the presence of our president, Florentino Pérez.

‘Real Madrid would like to express its gratitude and affection for Lucas Vázquez, one of our club’s greatest legends.’
