Newcastle boss Eddie Howe says Will Osula’s late winner against Manchester United was “one of the best emotions” he has ever felt.
Howe’s side were reduced to ten men in the first half when Jacob Ramsey was controversially sent off for a second yellow for simulation.
Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle the lead shortly after, however, before Casemiro’s equaliser.
But despite playing with a man less for the entirety of the second half, Osula struck late to hand Howe a much needed three points.
“Today we’ve started the game really well and then of course we get a red card,” Howe said.
“That would have been an easy feeling for the lads to adopt, to feel sorry for ourselves, here we go again.
“That’s the biggest compliment I can give the lads. They’ve really stood up in that second half and they’ve all given more. They’ve all believed that we can win the game.
“It’s a brilliant end to the game. It’s one of the best emotions that I think I’ve felt and I’m sure a lot of people will say the same.
“But also, we haven’t done that enough. Hopefully that’s a goal that’s replayed quite a bit because I think we all deserved it.”
Sandro Tonali was forced off late on in the game but Howe is hopeful it was just due to cramp.
“I think it was just cramp with Sandro,” he said. “Again, another player that’s playing every week, who is executing everything.
“We’ve got a lot of players that are maxed out. We’ve got to be careful. We’ve got to manage the squad. We’ve got so many big games to come and we don’t have a deep squad.
“So, yes, interesting squad selection and decisions for the weekend.”
