Crystal Palace have completed the club-record signing of forward Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur, securing the Wales international on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

The 24-year-old arrives in south London during the winter transfer window and will wear the No 11 shirt.

Palace confirmed Johnson will be eligible for selection for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Newcastle United.

The deal is understood to be worth close to £35 million, making it the most expensive signing in Palace’s history and one of the highest sales Tottenham have completed.

Johnson leaves Tottenham after struggling for consistent minutes under head coach Thomas Frank this season.

Only six of his 22 appearances in all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign came as Premier League starts.

That lack of regular involvement opened the door for Palace to move decisively early in the window.

Oliver Glasner has been eager to strengthen his attacking options as Palace balance domestic commitments with European football.

The Palace manager welcomed the speed of the deal and highlighted Johnson’s pace and goalscoring threat as key attributes.

Johnson becomes a significant addition following Eberechi Eze’s summer departure, with Palace seeking greater penetration and directness in the final third.

Ismaila Sarr and Yeremy Pino have carried much of the creative burden this season, particularly in the No 10 roles within Glasner’s system.

Johnson is expected to provide competition across the front line, with his ability to operate on either flank offering tactical flexibility.

Daichi Kamada, Justin Devenny and Eddie Nketiah now face increased competition for attacking places.

Johnson began his career at Nottingham Forest, playing a central role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2022.

His most defining moment in north London came last May, when his goal in the Europa League final delivered Tottenham’s first trophy in 17 years.

Johnson finished last season as Tottenham’s top scorer with 18 goals in all competitions.

Despite that return, his role diminished following the managerial change, making a move increasingly likely.

The forward’s arrival also offers cover during Sarr’s absence at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Johnson brings proven Premier League output as well as experience in European competition and at international level.

He has earned more than 40 senior caps for Wales and was part of their squad at the 2022 World Cup.

Palace believe the environment and system at Selhurst Park can help Johnson rediscover his best form.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are expected to reinvest the proceeds as they reshape their squad during the winter transfer window.
