Palmeiras resumed training on Thursday morning at the Academia de Futebol after a 2-2 draw at Atlético-MG in Belo Horizonte on Wednesday, their Brasileirão opener. According to Nosso Palestra, the squad returned to São Paulo straight after the match.
Starters worked indoors on recovery in the club’s performance centre, while the remaining players trained on the pitch in small-sided technical drills alongside academy youngsters.
Vitor Roque, who scored Palmeiras’ second after Flaco López opened their account, reflected on his first goal of the year, saying it made him happy and more confident to keep helping the team.
He viewed the draw as important, calling it a point that will help in the sequence of the league, and noted they pushed for victory but it did not happen.
Looking to Sunday, he expects a difficult Paulista trip to Botafogo-SP in Ribeirão Preto. Palmeiras sit second in the state competition with four wins and one defeat, and he stressed focus, work and humility to try to claim three away points.
Palmeiras are unbeaten in 11 against Botafogo-SP, with nine wins and two draws since their last loss, in the 2014 Paulista in Ribeirão Preto. In that period they conceded only two goals and kept eight successive clean sheets.
At Estádio Santa Cruz, Palmeiras have played 50 matches against several opponents, winning 24, drawing 18 and losing eight. Across all games in the city, their record is 52 wins, 31 draws and 24 defeats from 107 matches.
