Vitor Roque struck the title-clinching goal in the second leg against Novorizontino, rescuing team-mate Carlos Miguel after the goalkeeper’s costly mistake, a week after his penalty save in the first leg. As reported by Globo.com, the soggy pitch made for a scrappy contest.
Murilo put Palmeiras ahead inside five minutes after Marlon Freitas struck the post. Novorizontino equalised 15 minutes later from a Vinicius Paiva cross, with Miguel culpable. Piquerez nearly conceded a penalty and advanced little on a waterlogged flank, while Gustavo Gómez was cautioned soon after the leveller.
Freitas was Palmeiras’ standout midfielder and later threatened with a firm header. Andreas Pereira’s set pieces remained dangerous. The sodden surface blunted Arias’ dribbling, though he covered diligently on the right.
After the restart, Vitor Roque burst into life with a solo run he could not finish. At 17 minutes of the second half he punished goalkeeper Jordi’s mistake to score the decisive goal, with Arias also applying pressure.
Flaco López was booked and largely contained, though his flick helped create the winner before he was withdrawn on 38 minutes of the second half. Felipe Anderson, Lucas Evangelista, Allan, Emiliano Martínez and Ramón Sosa came on to manage the closing stages, Sosa’s effort was offside. Coach Abel Ferreira started Arias, saw his plan hindered by the surface, then steadied the side after the break and was booked for dissent.
