Italy’s sports pages hailed a glittering luge double in Cortina, Lazio’s shootout passage to the Coppa Italia semi-finals, and the build-up to Inter against Juventus.

According to Football Italia, Voetter and Oberhofer won the women’s doubles, and Rieder with Kainzwaldner took the men’s in Cortina, an historic sweep that moved Italy to third in the medals table on 13. President Sergio Mattarella joined the celebrations.

The papers flagged more hopes on the pistes and ice today, with Fofana, Lollobrigida, Goggia and Sighel among those to watch, alongside Brignone and Fontana. Italy were set to go again tonight in the mixed relay.

Lazio eliminated Bologna on penalties, 5-2 after 1-1 in 90 minutes following goals from Castro and Noslin. Misses by Ferguson and Orsolini proved decisive, sending Lazio to face Palladino’s Atalanta in the semi-finals. Pedro suffered a serious injury and required hospital tests.

Attention now turns to San Siro, where Inter host Juventus on Saturday, with La Penna appointed referee. Chivu advised Inter not to lose their heads.

Elsewhere, the Nations League draw is at 17.00, with Italy in the second tier and potentially paired with Norway, while England are also to be avoided.
