Flamengo announced the signing of Lucas Paquetá on Wednesday 28, and are racing to have him available for Sunday’s Supercopa do Brasil against Corinthians in Brasília.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the midfielder is due to land in Rio on Thursday 29, with the registration deadline falling on the eve of the match. That leaves the club just under three days to complete the process.

After arriving, he will undergo medical tests. If he is cleared, he will sign a five-year contract, after which Flamengo will file his transfer paperwork and seek his name on the CBF’s Boletim Informativo Diário.

Provided the registration is published by Saturday 31, he could make his debut in the Supercopa. He must also be assessed physically, as he has not played since six January for West Ham and did not train during talks due to back pain.

The deal is worth 42 million euros, R$ 260 million, making it the most expensive signing in South American history.
