Paris will not host a fan zone for the Champions League final between PSG and Arsenal on Saturday 30 May at 18:00.

Emmanuel Grégoire announced the decision on Monday, having strongly backed the idea on Wednesday, the night PSG qualified after a 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich and a 5-4 first leg. He said he had taken on board the police prefecture’s reservations, which he understood were also shared by the Interior Minister, adding that reason obliged him to heed them, per Le Parisien.

The Interior Minister, Laurent Nunez, had been notably less enthusiastic about opening a fan zone than Grégoire.

Grégoire pointed to a rare concentration of events that weekend, including 80,000 at the Stade de France for Aya Nakamura, 40,000 at La Défense Arena for Damso, and 15,000 or 16,000 at Bercy for rapper Bouss.

He added that the Parc des Princes would probably open to show the final, and that Stade Français are due to face Bayonne at Jean-Bouin, with the kick-off time still to be set.
