It’s a very good week for Paris Saint-Germain. Won in Monaco (3-2) last Wednesday and a 3-0 win over FC Metz this Saturday.

Midweek UEFA Champions League opponent AS Monaco opened the door to Luis Enrique’s men with a 2-1 fightback victory away at leaders RC Lens earlier on Saturday (Monaco won 3-2 at the Felix-Bollaert Stadium).

Désiré Doué and Bradley Barcola’s first-half goals and Gonçalo Ramos’s second-half goal secured all three points at Parc des Princes to move two points clear of the Northerners at the summit.

Other good news: the three strikers scored. PSG have won 17 games in Ligue 1 and have 54 points. Luis Enrique, facing the bottom team in Ligue 1 and looking ahead to Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Monaco, made several changes in defense.

Illia Zabarnyi, Lucas Beraldo, and Lucas Hernández, who are usually substitutes in important matches, were given a starting place and performed well. Dro Fernández, the 18-year-old Spaniard who arrived on January 26 from FC Barcelona, made his full debut while Ibrahim Mbaye replaced this week’s hero, Doué, at halftime after his midweek brace in the principality and chipped finish in Paris.

Paris Saint-Germain have won 17 consecutive official matches against Metz since August 18, 2007 (0-0 in Lorraine), and this is PSG’s ninth clean sheet in 11 Ligue 1 matches at the Parc des Princes this season.

PSG Brimming With Confidence Ahead of the Most Important Match of the Season

Although not a surprise result against Metz, PSG can now focus on the second leg against Monaco this week, knowing they are once again leading the way in Ligue 1. If Paris eliminates Monaco next Tuesday, it will be the 14th time that the reigning European champions have qualified for the Champions League Round of 16.
