Pavon has turned criticism around at Grêmio, delivering two assists in the win over Santos days after ending an almost 500-day goal drought with the second against Palestino in the Sudamericana.

He left to applause from more than 37,000 at the Arena when withdrawn in the second half. According to Globo.com, he has become Luís Castro's trusted right-back, ahead of Marcos Rocha and João Pedro for his industry and discipline.

The role makes goals rarer, yet he remains the chief supplier. He led 2025 with 11 assists and has three this year, level with Noriega and trailing Amuzu and Enamorado on four.

Castro first used him there against São Paulo in February in the Brasileirão. He is fifth for appearances this season with 28 games, 24 of them as a full-back.

After Palestino, Castro praised his resilience, stressing the need to keep going through difficult moments.

Technical coordinator Felipão has also backed him after their time together at Atlético-MG. Team-mates supported him during the lean spell, and the dressing room hailed his drought-ending goal with applause and hugs, including from psychologist Marisa Santiago.

Pavon said he was delighted to score again, that he had waited for it, and that colleagues helped him keep confidence and work every day.

Dressing room leaders want him to stay. He is contracted until the end of the season and Grêmio are already working on a renewal.
