Juanfran Pérez Llorca, president of the Generalitat Valenciana, pressed the case for the Nou Mestalla to be named a 2030 World Cup venue in front of RFEF president Rafael Louzán, saying Valencia would be ready if chosen.
According to Superdeporte, he said he was convinced the stadium would be up to the task despite having been ruled out previously. He made the remarks in Castelló at the presentation of the women’s Supercopa de España, whose final stage takes place in the city next week.
He thanked Louzán for his efforts to ensure the Comunitat Valenciana is a host in the tournament being organised by Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
He added that the Generalitat Valenciana would give absolute backing to that aim, praising cities such as Castelló while calling Valencia the capital of the Kingdom. He said residents in Alicante and Castellón would welcome Valencia hosting matches.
Pérez Llorca also highlighted the region’s strong transport connections and the depth of its football support.
