The adventure in Iran is off to a rocky start for Ivorian international Serge Aurier.
On July 31, Serge Aurier signed with Persepolis FC, the Iranian club. But after just a few training sessions and missing his team's draw against Fajr-Sepasi Shiraz, Aurier is already forced to step away from action for at least six months. The player has contracted hepatitis B, a viral liver infection that can have serious consequences. This virus is present in most bodily fluids of infected individuals and is highly contagious, typically transmitted through blood and sexual contact.
Given the high risk of transmission, Serge Aurier has been placed in isolation and cannot take part in his team's training sessions. “By virtue of a temporary order issued by the disciplinary committee of the Football Federation, Mr. Serge Aurier is banned from all football activities, including attending club training, until further notice,” reads a statement on the Iranian Football Federation's website.
Aurier is now confined and under medical supervision to monitor his viral load. He will undergo an initial test in three months to assess his condition. Depending on his health status, he may be cleared to resume training or will have to wait an additional three months.
