Manchester United u21s defeated rivals Liverpool away to go top of Premier League 2 and extend their 100% record after four matches.

Ratings

Will Murdock – 6 – Made one really good save in the match but was also lucky to get away with a mistake as he spilled the ball while trying to smother it but the referee called a soft foul.

Jaydan Kamason – 8 – A quiet first half in attack but he did well defensively, most noticeably with two last ditch tackles but on the whole marked Trent Kone-Doherty out of the match. In the second half is when he really enjoyed himself on the ball, linking well with Lacey on the right side and getting high up the pitch with underlaps inside. It was these runs into the box that saw him hit the crossbar before ultimately scoring the match winner.

Jacob Devaney – 6.5 – Has taken to his new centre back role and put in another solid performance. Got beat for pace once but dealt with most attacks well.

Dan Armer – 6.5 – A very good range of passing, he played a couple of nice cross field passes and in general was very comfortable playing out of the back and defending the box.

Diego Leon – 5.5 – A very lively performance from Leon but also very chaotic. The good parts included a high energy, being strong in the tackle and showing good pace to cover gaps and run into space. On the other side, his erratic decision making led to trouble at the back for United as he chased the ball and he made some loose touches on the ball. On a few occasions including for Liverpool’s goal, a lack of communication saw Leon and a teammate chase the ball carrier, leaving a runner free. An understandable issue given Leon’s lack of familiarity with the team and language barrier.

Tyler Fletcher – 6.5 – Created Obi’s goal with a driving run of which he did a few times throughout the match and provided good deliveries from set pieces.

Jayce Fitzgerald – 6.5 – Moved the ball quickly with one touch passing and played a key part in United controlling possession, looking at his best when he drifted right to combine with Lacey.

Shea Lacey – 7.5 – The brightest spark in United’s attack, he looked like creating something every time he touched the ball which made it surprising that he was rarely fed the ball in the first half. He saw more of it in the second half though where he combined well with Kamason, crossing for Kamason’s headed attempt off the crossbar and came lose with a shot of his own. He also played a part in the build up to Obi’s goal.

Jack Fletcher – 6 – A performance that lacked the end product. His pressing off the ball triggered a number of mistakes from Liverpool, allowing him to win possession high up the pitch but he let himself down with the final decision after creating good opportunities. Often opting for the shot himself, he spun three efforts well wide which saw him get a telling off from his brother after one instance.

Bendito Mantato – 5.5 – Poor communication with Leon saw him switch off and lose the runner for Liverpool’s goal and in general looked a bit lost on where he should be in the first half. In attack he struggled to find his footing but came up big with an overlapping run to provide the cross that led to the winner.

Chido Obi – 7.5 – Took his goal really well and forced the rebound for Kamason’s winner. But more than his impact in the box, he impressed with his tight dribbling to open spaces as he cleverly changed pace from slow to fast to beat defenders.

Substitutes

James Scanlon – 6 – Was safe with the ball but didn’t have much of an impact as United found more joy on the right wing.

Victor Musa – 6.5 – Did well after his introduction to keep the ball high up the pitch, winning a number of corners and forced a decent save with a long range shot.

Gabriele Biancheri – N/A – Only on for the final seconds of the match.
