On Saturday evening, RB Leipzig and Borussia Mönchengladbach played out a dire 0-0 draw at the Red Bull Arena.

After their poor performance in midweek, Leipzig looked to turn their fortunes but apart from seeing more of the ball in the first half, they looked to be repeating their performance in midweek against Celtic. Leipzig was very poor attacking-wise and never really troubled Moritz Nicolas in the Gladbach net.

Gladbach on the other hand had the best chances in the half. Tim Kleindiesnt had a point-blank effort saved by Peter Gulacsi after he brought down a cross with a deft touch, while Franck Honorat would hit the crossbar.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first but Leipzig were able to challenge Nicolas several times during the brief period where they were on top in the second half.

However, in the end, Gladabch will be the happier team with the result they worked for the draw, and if were not for better shooting they could have even won the game.

For Leipzig, the end of this game spells the end of or a poor week after losses to Dortmund and Celtic as well as another poor performance vs Gladbach. Yes, they may have injuries but they also have the depth to perform at a consistent level but as of right now they are unable to do that. The international break comes at a good time for Leipzig as they need a pause and to reset for when they return against Hoffenheim in two weeks time.

RB Leipzig XI:

Peter Gulacsi (6), Lukas Klostermann (5), Willi Orban (5), El Chadaille Bitshiabu (6), Benjamin Henrichs (5), Kevin Kampl (5) Arthur Vermeeren (5), Antonio Nusa (6), Christoph Baumgartner (6), Loïs Openda (6), Yussuf Poulsen (5)

Others: Amadou Haidara (5), Benjamin Seško (5), Nicolas Seiwald (-), Assan Ouedraogo (-)

Borussia Mönchengladbach XI:

Moritz Nicolas (7), Joe Scally (5), Marvin Friedrich (6), Ko Itakura (6), Lukas Ullrich (6), Rocco Reitz (6), Julian Weigl (6), Franck Honorat (6), Alassane Plea (5), Robin Hack (5), Tim Kleindiesnt (6)

Others: Florian Neuhaus (5), Philipp Sander (5), Tomas Cvancara (-), Nathan Ngoumou (-), Fabio Chiarodia (-)

GGFN Man of the Match: Mortiz Nicolas (7)

When Nicolas was called upon, he delivered. The 27-year-old made several crucial saves to keep out Leipzig in the second half and looked very confident. This will likely give Gerardo Seoane a selection headache after the international break with the return of Jonas Omlin. The Swiss international is very injury prone and Nicolas has proven to be a more than capable backup.
