Looking at this Newcastle team v Bradford.
Only hours to go now before United are back in action at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United looking to make it into the last 16 of the Carabao Cup..
A bye in the second round due to their Champions League involvement.
Newcastle United now taking on the League One table toppers in this Carabao Cup third round clash, Eddie Howe’s side having drawn 0-0 on Sunday against Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Pope, Livramento, Thiaw, Botman, Burn, Hall, Tonali, Miley, Willock, Woltemade, Murphy
Eddie Howe gave his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
The NUFC Head Coach has Wissa and Ramsey out through injury, plus Fabian Schar misses due to concussion protocols, having been forced off against Barcelona following a blow to the head.
Eddie Howe made clear that he intends to rotate his squad options once again.
So where does that leave us?
This is my predicted Newcastle team v Bradford:
Ramsdale, Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Bruno, Miley, Barnes, Gordon, Osula, Elanga
If this proved the reality, it would see seven changes to the eleven that started against Bournemouth, with only Thiaw, Botman, Hall and Miley remaining from the team that kicked off on Sunday.
Eddie Howe appeared to make clear yesterday that the likes of Livramento, Burn and Tonali would all be rested after starting all three matches last week. Whilst I think safe to assume that Aaron Ramsdale will be given his Newcastle United debut.
I think the NUFC boss will revert to a back four and maybe possible Lascelles could get a game with Thiaw kept for Arsenal on Sunday. However, I think on balance it will be Thiaw alongside Botman, with Trippier and Hall at full-back.
My guess is that Bruno and Joelinton will be given a half each tonight, the Brazilians taking it in turns to anchor the midfield/team. With Miley staying in the side. Every chance of course that both of our Brazil internationals will start and try to ensure a real grip on the match from the start, however, we have seen Eddie Howe do this half an half before with the duo and with Arsenal in four days time, my bet is it will be used again tonight.
Further forward, I fancy a change of formation as well as personnel, to try and help unlock the visiting defence and let the goals flow.
Maybe a bit of a 4-2-3-1, with Osula up front and Gordon in behind in a free role, Barnes to the left and Elanga to the right.
Nick Woltemade on the bench if needed.
