NY Times notes this is week 26 of its Premier League predictions challenge. Wilfred top-scored again with 11 points to my four, so I am eight adrift, with the subscribers closing in and the algorithm still bottom after backing draws for Wolves and Burnley. Subscriber Peter, from Dublin, collected seven by calling Manchester United 2-0 Tottenham, while Wilfred’s unique correct scores Bournemouth 1-1 Aston Villa and Wolves 1-3 Chelsea brought bonus points.

We even all agreed on Leeds 1-1 Nottingham Forest and Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland, and both were wrong, the latter undone in the 94th minute. We go again. Our guest is James, a 27-year-old Manchester United fan from Norwich, who expects set pieces to swing it after some nerves and goes West Ham 1-2 Manchester United.

I sense excitement around United after four straight wins under interim head coach Michael Carrick. The Spain-based fan Frank Ilett, who vowed in October 2024 not to cut his hair until five victories in a row, has amassed about 1.2 million Instagram followers and just under a million on TikTok, and game five might arrive at West Ham. My pick is West Ham 0-2 Manchester United.

Other picks: Chelsea 2-1 Leeds, Everton 1-0 Bournemouth, Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle, Aston Villa 2-0 Brighton, Crystal Palace 2-0 Burnley.

Manchester City 2-0 Fulham, Nottingham Forest 1-0 Wolves, Sunderland 2-2 Liverpool, a fixture that still brings to mind the beach ball, and Brentford 1-2 Arsenal, with the leaders likely to relish an awkward, bruising test.
