Hull City and Preston North End meet at the MKM Stadium on Tuesday night in the EFL Championship.

The Tigers return home looking to bounce back after a late setback saw them fall 2-1 to Watford at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Preston make the trip to the east coast aiming to extend their strong start to the season, arriving on the back of a three-match unbeaten run following Saturday’s goalless draw with Bristol City. Kick-off is at 19:45 BST.

The last meeting between the two teams ended with Hull City winning 2-1.

The Fan Zone

Joe Collins (To Hull and Back Podcast): My main concern coming out of Watford is how terrible we seem to be defensively.

After the resolute defensive display against Southampton, I thought Sergej Jakirovic had found a solution to our prior defending woes. Watford proves that is not the case.

There is a huge disconnect from the defence to the midfield. John Lundstram has, in my view, been poor since our defeat to Bristol City, with the exception of the second half against Southampton. Amir Hadziahmetovic has looked good since he came into the team, though. This could turn out to be a situation were these two players cannot play together.

Charlie Hughes, since his return from concussion-related absence, hasn't been the same player. He and Egan both looked shaky on Saturday, and on other day two Hughes mistakes would have cost a goal or seen him sent off. All the more strange given how strong that centre-half pairing looked at the back end of last term.

Jakirovic got his substitutions all wrong too. He waited too long and the changes didn't work. Akintola was dreadful, Palmer didn't touch the ball, Slater and Gyabi (who's cameos have been good in recent games) couldn't get in the game and Destan was brought on with two minutes to go.

The returns of Semi Ajayi and Matt Crooks could solve the defence/midfield issues. Both could be involved against Preston, although I'm not sure either will start.

In spite of all of that, we are decent at home now. Jakirovic set out to change our MKM fortunes, and has done so at this stage. Now we need to sustain it, tighten up at the back and try and re-find that away form that kept us in the division last season.

Thus, I go into the game with confidence - given that it's a home clash. Weird, I know!

Prediction: 2-1

PNEFC_Stats : A first league midweek game of the season sees Preston head to Hull still in the top 6 after a home draw vs Bristol City on Saturday.

After a win at Derby in the last away trip Preston will be looking for back to back away wins for the first time since March 2024.

Andrew Hughes is suspended with Liam Lindsay likely to come in.

Pol Valentin is out with a hamstring injury and joins Robbie Brady, Jordan Thompson, Will Keane and Brad Potts who all remain unavailable through injury.

Prediction: 1-1
