Three days after facing Aston Villa, Eintracht return to the arena on the Ohio River to take on Louisville City FC.
A successful way to kick off a run of three friendlies at the ADIDAS U.S. TOUR 2025 – that was Eintracht’s take on Saturday evening’s 2-2 draw against English Premier League opponents Aston Villa. The Eagles were able to learn valuable lessons from their opening encounter at Lynn Family Stadium, which came in their third week of pre-season preparations. According to head coach Dino Toppmöller, it helped Eintracht ascertain “how much progress have we made when it comes to facing a top side from England with the quality to play through our press and generate momentum”. Toppmöller’s players will have another opportunity to prove themselves under competitive conditions when they return to the arena on the Ohio River to face hosts Louisville City FC on Tuesday 29 July (kick-off 19:30 local time, 1:30 CEST on Wednesday 30 July).
Huge excitement
“LouCity takes on Europe’s elite” is the message that greets visitors to the American club’s official website. Louisville are brimming with pride and excitement ahead of their latest meeting with Eintracht, which comes almost a year to the day since their 4-0 defeat to the Hessian outfit on 30 July 2024. “We’re very grateful for the opportunity to experience that again,” said head coach Danny Cruz, who is in his fifth season at the helm. While Eintracht begin their 2025/26 season in mid-August, the ‘Boys in Purple’ have been in competitive action since March and occupy second place in the Eastern Conference of the second-tier USL Championship after 17 rounds of fixtures. While the Eagles were taking on Villa, LouCity FC managed to win their dress rehearsal for Tuesday’s clash with the UEFA Champions League participants, beating Lexington SC 2-1 in the USL Cup courtesy of a late double from Jake Morris (90’+1, 90’+7).
On to Philadelphia
A day after their match against Louisville, the Eagles jet off to Philadelphia, where they face their third and final big test of the ADIDAS U.S. TOUR against MLS side Philadelphia Union. The game at Subaru Park on Saturday 2 August gets under way at 17:30 local time (23:30 CEST).
