The latest news surrounding QPR

QPR are one of the few Championship sides who are on the proverbial beach, and it won't be long before their full focus switches to the off-season.

The Hoops have had a season full of ups and downs, but the overall feeling around Loftus Road is as positive as it has been for quite some time, with numerous exciting young players primed to kick on next year after showing promise this term.

Even with a defence that's among the worst in the league, QPR will be finishing with their highest points tally since the 2021/22 campaign, and possibly could land a top-10 finish for only the second time since their Championship return in 2015 if they finish the season strong.

Come May 2, the focus will be solely on improvement for next season, but there have been some indications about the direction being taken at Loftus Road already, before the campaign is up.

From player departures to prospective signings and a possible managerial change in the summer, here's the latest surrounding QPR.

Steve Cook offered a coaching role following his playing contract's expiration

It was announced on Monday that Steve Cook will be making his 100th and final appearance for QPR on Tuesday night against Swansea City, with his contract not set to be renewed in the summer.

The veteran centre-back, who turned 35 last Sunday, hasn't been utilised as much as he has in his third year at Loftus Road in comparison to the first two, and his departure as a player is an indication of the more youth-centred direction that the Hoops want to go in the near future.

However, QPR clearly value the impact he has made off the field during his time at the club, as they have since offered him a coaching role.

It will be intriguing to see what Cook decides to do, as the 35-year-old has still played a decent part in Julien Stephan's side this season, and could clearly walk into a low-end Championship or a high-end League One side next term if he wishes to continue his playing career.

But if he decides to call time on that, then he may still be involved off the field in some capacity at Loftus Road next season.

QPR make contact with Filipe Luis over managerial role

If Cook does end up making the transition to being a coach at QPR, perhaps he would be doing it under the leadership of Filipe Luis, as Sport Witness has revealed that the Hoops, along with Middlesbrough, have made contact with the Brazilian over a possible move.

Luis, whose sole season as a player in England saw him win the Premier League and the EFL Cup at Chelsea during the 2014/15 campaign, was sacked by Brazilian club Flamengo in March following an 8-0 win over Madureira to reach the Campeonato Carioca final.

At the time, ESPN reported that one of the reasons for the sacking was that he'd spoken to Chelsea about a managerial opening at Stamford Bridge, and while perhaps not at the Premier League giants, could Luis see himself managing four miles down the road at Loftus Road?

The 40-year-old won seven titles in under two years at Flamengo, including four in the 2025 campaign, and while managing in English football will provide a different challenge than in Brazil, he'd be one of the more intriguing and exciting managerial hires in the Championship if QPR were to land him.

Julien Stephan has built a strong foundation during his debut year in the Loftus Road dugout, but only time will tell whether he'll be able to continue to grow that next season.

QPR register interest in Harry Amass

With Cook departing the playing squad, there'll be a need for new defenders to come in and replace him, and with the Hoops looking towards young, exciting talents, it's no surprise that Manchester United's Harry Amass is their "top target."

That's per a report from West London Sport last week, which mentions that Amass would be an apt left-back replacement for Rhys Norrington-Davis, whose permanent signing at the end of his loan from Sheffield United "does not look straightforward".

The 19-year-old was one of the standout players in the Championship in the first half of the season while on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, and Norwich City were quick to snap him up in January to help assist with their late play-off surge.

Unfortunately, a serious hamstring injury picked up in training just days after his debut curtailed his season, and he is currently back at his parent club to continue his rehabilitation.

Once fit again, you'd imagine that Manchester United will be keen to loan him back out to the Championship, and QPR are expected to be one of the suitors looking to secure his services for next season.

Norwich are also expected to battle with the Hoops for his signature, but with the ambition that Julien Stephan's side have shown in recent transfer windows, you'd give QPR a good chance of winning that race.
