Rafa Mir stood trial in Valencia on Thursday 28 May accused of sexual assault and causing injuries. He denies the allegations, saying all contact was consensual, while the prosecutor is seeking 10 and a half years in prison.
According to Superdeporte, the hearing began at 10:00 in the Fourth Section of the Valencia court at the City of Justice. The Elche player, owned by Sevilla, is accused over events in 2024 while on loan at Valencia.
The prosecutor said the complainants had been consistent from the outset and criticised the local police. She suggested Mir and his childhood friend were protecting each other. The defence sought acquittal, citing no proof and contradictions.
Mir told the court he did not assault a woman at his home in Bétera on 31 August 2024. Answering his lawyer, he said it was consensual and that he was shocked by a later Guardia Civil call. He also mentioned disputes between the two friends that night over jealousy.
The complainant alleged two sexual assaults, saying she cried, struggled to breathe, felt fear and asked him to stop.
The case also covers footballer Pablo Jara, Mir’s friend, accused of the same offences. A second woman alleged non-consensual touching and said Jara punched her while ejecting them. The prosecutor argued Mir’s conduct amounted to rape because it involved violence, and kept her initial demands, including 3 years for Jara. Both defendants answered only their lawyers’ questions and their teams asked for acquittal.
