Rafa Mir, formerly of Valencia and now on Sevilla’s books, has publicly responded to his conviction in Valencia. The player said in a post that he will appeal in the coming days.

The Fourth Section of Valencia’s Provincial Court sentenced the forward to eight years and six months in prison for one count of sexual assault and another of injuries. The decision was notified to the parties on Monday and is not yet final.

He stated that he disagrees with the ruling. He added that he still trusts the justice system.

The judgment also orders compensation of 64,000 euros to the victim of the sexual assault and 6,280 euros to the complainant in the injuries case.

The resolution can be challenged before higher courts. For now, Mir maintains his position of disagreement as the legal process moves into the appeal stage.
