According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Fourth Section of the Provincial Court of Valencia has sentenced footballer Rafa Mir to eight and a half years in prison after convicting him of sexual assault with penetration and an offence of causing injuries.
The court found there was no consent in either incident. The ruling states he inserted his fingers into the woman twice, first in the pool of his villa in the Torre en Conill estate in Bétera, then later in a bathroom inside the house.
The panel relied primarily on the complainant’s testimony. She was 21 at the time, in the early hours of 1 September 2024. The judgment says her account meets three legal criteria, no subjective incredibility, verisimilitude and persistence in incrimination.
Evidence at trial supported the accusations, centred on the testimonies of two victims, with both providing consistent, coherent accounts with precise detail. The judges add that Mir’s victim spoke clearly and consistently with her previous versions.
The same chamber also sentenced footballer Pablo Jara to two and a half years in prison and a fine for sexual assault, an offence against moral integrity and a minor offence of injuries. The judgment orders compensation of 64,000 euros to Mir’s victim and 6,280 euros to Jara’s complainant. It was notified to the parties on Monday and is not yet final, so imprisonment would follow once the ruling becomes firm.
