Milan 1-1 Como
Rafael Leão scored a brilliantly-taken equaliser as AC Milan extended their unbeaten run in Serie A to 24 matches with a draw against Como at San Siro.
Milan have not lost in the Italian top flight since the opening day of the season defeat to Cremonese, but the record looked under threat when goalkeeper Mike Maignan’s lapse in distribution allowed Nico Paz to give the visitors a half-time lead.
Portugal star Leão preserved the unbeaten run with the leveller in the 64th minute, latching onto Ardon Jashari’s long throughball and lifting a perfect finish over Como goalkeeper Jean Butez. In solidarity with his goalkeeper after the mistake which saw Milan fall behind, Leão ran directly to Maignan to celebrate with the Frenchman.
“It was a game that we should’ve won, as we played much better compared to the last time we beat Como,” Leão said after the match. “We had more of the ball, although we should’ve been more decisive in front of goal in the first half. We conceded, but we kept pushing and had to be more determined on the final cross.”
The dropped points mean Milan remain in 2nd place, which would represent a much-improved campaign after finishing 8th last term, but the Rossoneri now slip 7 points behind their city rivals Internazionale at the top of the standings.
“There are many games left to play, Serie A is becoming a very difficult league, you never know who can win or lose,” said Leão, who was named Player of the Match. “We can only do our best, we’ll try to win the next game and then we’ll see. We want to keep climbing.
“Maignan? He is a very important person for me, we already played together at Lille and he helps me every day. It was a difficult moment after that error, but this is a fantastic group, we have the energy to aim high.”
